Are you an English language teacher? Do you need to learn more about pronunciation and how to teach it? Then this practical, classroom-oriented online course is for you!
The course in a nutshell
The course has been created by teacher, trainer and DEI professional Taylor Veigga, alongside veteran ELT author and pronunciation specialist Mark Hancock. The flipped approach of the course combines access to an online platform of videos and resources which participants may access at any time, plus weekly live one-hour sessions with the tutors via video-link. The limited class size mean that there is plenty of opportunity to interact directly with the tutors and other participants during the course.
The what, how and why of pronunciation
The course combines phonology – from sounds to connected speech and intonation, with pedagogy – games, puzzles and techniques such as drilling. Both of these are set within the context of the purpose of pronunciation teaching – to help your students to become more effective and intelligible participants in a global English language speaking community.
A global community
The biannual H&V Pronunciation Course for Teachers began as a form of continuous professional development for English teachers in Brazil, but now we have participants joining from all around the globe.
What you will take away
Participants will leave the course with:
- a solid familiarity with the most important concepts of phonology
- a rich toolbox of materials and ideas to bring pronunciation alive in the classroom
- an increased awareness of their own accent and other global accent variants
- increased insight into the main purpose of pronunciation learning: intelligibility
- a digital certificate to add to their CPD portfolio for those who complete at least 60% of the course
