Are you an English language teacher? Do you need to learn more about pronunciation and how to teach it? Then this practical, classroom-oriented online course is for you!

The course in a nutshell

The course has been created by teacher, trainer and DEI professional Taylor Veigga, alongside veteran ELT author and pronunciation specialist Mark Hancock. The flipped approach of the course combines access to an online platform of videos and resources which participants may access at any time, plus weekly live one-hour sessions with the tutors via video-link. The limited class size mean that there is plenty of opportunity to interact directly with the tutors and other participants during the course.

The what, how and why of pronunciation

The course combines phonology – from sounds to connected speech and intonation, with pedagogy – games, puzzles and techniques such as drilling. Both of these are set within the context of the purpose of pronunciation teaching – to help your students to become more effective and intelligible participants in a global English language speaking community.

A global community

The biannual H&V Pronunciation Course for Teachers began as a form of continuous professional development for English teachers in Brazil, but now we have participants joining from all around the globe.

What you will take away

Participants will leave the course with:

  • a solid familiarity with the most important concepts of phonology
  • a rich toolbox of materials and ideas to bring pronunciation alive in the classroom
  • an increased awareness of their own accent and other global accent variants
  • increased insight into the main purpose of pronunciation learning: intelligibility
  • a digital certificate to add to their CPD portfolio for those who complete at least 60% of the course

I took Taylor Veigga and Mark Hancock’s pronunciation course, and it gave me a solid foundation in English phonology and practical ways to teach it. Plus, the tutors built a warm and welcoming community where I could grow as a professional while studying a topic that was well outside my comfort zone. I’m grateful for the role this course played in boosting my confidence in teaching pronunciation, and I highly recommend it!

I am delighted to recommend Taylor Veigga and Mark Hancock’s Pronunciation Course for Teachers. Studying with them was a great honor and privilege, considering their contributions to the ELT community. These brilliant professionals joined forces and organized a comprehensive material that gathers the most relevant contents related to pronunciation. What amazed me the most in the whole experience was the quantity of material available on the website. Having attended the online session, our learning would be enhanced by the myriad of files that were collected to provide us with thorough support, through articles, videos and exercises, for instance. It is definitely a must-do course for those who aim at broadening their knowledge of pronunciation.

I signed up for Mark and Taylor’s pronunciation course because I wanted to understand how I could include a pronunciation component in my English teaching. I learned much more than I expected! Not only was the course extremely thorough, the weekly meetings and the discussions were fun and engaging. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in learning more about English pronunciation.

Maria Portillo – English Teacher

Having had the opportunity to take Taylor Veigga and Mark Hancock’s Pronunciation Course for teachers, I have to say it is definitely a must-do. If I’m not mistaken, I took the course in its first edition and I know they have added some content and material. Therefore, I wouldn’t miss it for the world. It was great to revise, learn and discuss important aspects of English Pronunciation, English as a Lingua Franca and focus on the matters that most impede intelligibility. Throughout the course and the meetings on Sundays, they were able to engage teachers in relevant discussions, present meaningful activities to work with students in class and encourage us to come up with our own activities. We had an /ˈɔː.səm/ time together! It was for sure an enriching experience!

Thanks a million, Veigga and Mark!:)

This course provided me with the confidence I lacked in teaching pronunciation, by giving me the theory, tools and practical activities – all in one package. Not to mention, I got to be the student and see the activities in action during the live webinars with Mark and Taylor. Simply the best value for money in a CPD course you can find!

Vicky Margari – Business English trainer

When I applied for this pronunciation course, my goal was to improve my knowledge and my own pronunciation skills. Little did I know the scope was far much broader. They managed to cover everything a teacher should know about it with challenging exercises, interesting and advanced material, some humor and, of course, the best tutors!
